Description

Petri et al reported an index for the response of lupus nephritis to therapy. This is based on changes in the SLICC-RAS over time. The authors are from multiple institutions participating as Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC).

Patient selection: SLE with lupus nephritis

Parameters:

(1) baseline renal activity score (SLICC-RAS)

(2) followup renal activity score, often after 6 months

Complete response:

(1) baseline RAS > 0

(2) followup RAS = 0

Partial response:

(1) baseline RAS greater than followup RAS

(2) followup RAS > 0

Stable disease:

(1) baseline RAS equals the followup RAS

Worsening disease:

(1) followup RAS greater than baseline RAS

Performance:

• The index showed a high agreement with the physician ratings.

Limitations:

• The timing of the followup visit has to be long enough to allow for an intervention to exert its effect but not too long after.
