If a motor vehicle comes suddenly to an abrupt stop, then any loose object can fly forward as a missile.
Situation:
(1) A motor vehicle stops abruptly.
(2) Something loose in the vehicle moves forward due to its momentum.
(3) The object strikes someone, resulting in injury or death.
Risk factors:
(1) Absence of head rests or other barriers.
(2) Unstable and unsecured items.
(3) Uncovered liquids.
Consequences:
(1) penetrating injury
(2) blunt trauma, including to the base of the skull
(3) eye injury
(4) burns from a hot liquid
(5) loss of control of the vehicle
