Description

Lofgren's syndrome is an acute form of sarcoidosis with a characteristic clinical presentation. It usually is associated with a good prognosis.


 

Classic diagnostic triad:

(1) erythema nodosum (red nodular lesions on the extremities)

(2) acute symmetrical periarticular swelling or polyarthritis, typically involving the ankles and feet

(3) bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy

 

Some authors also include:

(1) anterior uveitis

(2) unilateral hilar lymphadenopathy

 

The differential diagnosis of erythema nodosum and bilateral hilar adenopathy includes:

(1) malignant lymphoma

(2) tuberculosis

(3) deep fungal infection
