Exhaust fumes from a diesel engine can have a number of adverse effects that may range from simple annoyance to outright toxicity. Some locations are more likely to provide an opportunity to inhale fumes than others.
Places where there may be large numbers of diesel engines:
(1) bus stations
(2) transport terminals (boat, air, rail)
(3) truck stops
(4) construction sites
(5) fire stations
(6) warehouses
(7) diesel engine repair shops
(8) electric generators
(9) engine room
Places where vehicles visit:
(1) gas stations
(2) regulatory sites (like weigh stations)
(3) toll stations
(4) loading docks
Places where vehicles travel:
(1) tunnels
(2) traffic bridges
(3) streets and highways
(4) mines
If air intakes for a building are near one of these sites, then the fumes can be distributed throughout a building.
