Description

Carruthers et al reported a grading scale for lip fullness. The volume of the lips affects appearance and may be an issue for cosmetic surgery. The authors are from multiple institutions in Canada, the United States and Europe.

Standard photographs may be taken from front and side to document the appearance.

The appearance applies to both the upper and lower lip, with the lower lip usually the more prominent.

The Steiner line is drawn in the lateral view and extends from the tip of the nose to the most anterior point of the chin (mandible). Grade 4 lips reach the line. The distance to the line increases as the grade decreases.
