Localized scleroderma (morphea) involving the face and forehead may resemble the linear scar left by a saber cut and is termed facial en coup sabre.
Clinical features
(1) one or more linear scars over the face and/or forehead
(2) variable hemifacial atrophy (Parry-Romberg Syndrome)
(2) ipsilateral localized alopecia
(3) one or more ophthalmic disorders in the ipsilateral eye
(4) central nervous system involvement of the ipsilateral cerebral cortex
Changes to the central nervous system may include:
(1) epilepsy
(2) neurovasculitis with lesions of the white matter ipsilateral to the skin lesions
(3) hemiplegic migraine
(4) ipsilateral hearing loss
Differential diagnosis:
(1) trauma
(2) linear facial lichen sclerosus
(3) linear discoid lupus erythematosus
