Healy and Helliwell developed a score for evaluating patients for enthesitis. This index was initially defined for patients with psoriatic arthritis. The authors are from the University of Leeds in England and the Hutt Valley District Health Board in New Zealand.
Enthesitis refers to inflammation of the muscular or tendinous attachment to bone.
Sites:
(1) lateral epicondyle, left
(2) lateral epicondyle, right
(3) medial femoral condyle, left
(4) medial femoral condyle, right
(5) Achilles tendon, left
(6) Achilles tendon, right
Scoring was based on the absence (0) or presence (1) of pain on examination.
total index =
= SUM(points for all 6 sites)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 6
• The higher the score the more sites are painful.
Performance:
• The floor effect is minimal when compared to the Mander Enthesitis Index.
• The score is easy to learn and to perform.
