In addition to the nares, leeches may attach along the pharynx or upper airway.
Locations include:
(1) nasopharynx
(2) oropharynx
(3) uvula
(4) hypopharynx
(5) larynx
Symptoms may include:
(1) recurrent hemoptysis
(2) airway obstruction
(3) cough
(4) throat irritation
(5) dysphonia or hoarseness
(5) anemia
Differential diagnosis:
(1) tumor
(2) foreign body
