A person may ingest lead through the diet


Sources for lead that may be ingested:

(1) vegetables grown in lead-contaminated soil (cabbage, lettuce, etc)

(2) predatory fish who concentrate lead over time (tuna, etc)

(3) lead cooking pots

(4) lead solder on metal food cans

(5) lead glaze on dinner ware

(6) folk medicine added to food

(7) moonshine

(8) lead in water used for cooking

 

If lead is found then the patient should be screened for other heavy metals (mercury, cadmium, zinc, etc).
