Description

Ko et al reported the LBS (lactate, blood, systolic) score to predict hypotension in a patient with non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding. This can help to identify a patient who may require more aggressive management. The authors are from Hanyang University, University of Ulsan and University of San Diego.

Patient selection: non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding

Parameters:

(1) serum lactate in mmol/L

(2) blood in nasogastric aspirate

(3) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

• maximum score: 9

• A score <= 2 has a negative predictive value of 99.5%

• A score >= 7 has a specificity of 97% but a sensitivity of 13%.
