McHenry et al reported a number of risk factors that can help identify a person who is increased risk for having a latex allergy.


 

Source of natural rubber: Hevea brailiensis tree

 

Risk factors:

(1) healthcare worker with significant exposure to latex products

(2) industrial worker handling latex or making latex products

(3) history of multiple operations, especially to repair congenital anomalies

(4) history of certain food allergies

(5) history of atopy

(6) history of reacting to a latex-containing product

 

Food allergies that may be associated with latex allergy:

(1) avacado

(2) banana

(3) celery

(4) cherry

(5) chestnut

(6) fig

(7) kiwi

(8) melon

(9) nectarine

(10) papaya

(11) peach

(12) pineapple

(13) plum

(14) potato

(15) tomato
