Some patients who have recovered from Yellow Fever will develop a hepatitis 7-9 weeks after initial symptom onset. The condition justifies extended patient follow-up after apparent recovery.
Patient selection: recent recovery from Yellow Fever
Frequency of condition: 16% of survivors
Clinical features:
(1) jaundice
(2) fatigue
(3) headache
(4) myalgia
(5) arthralgia
Laboratory findings:
(1) transient elevation in serum AST or ALT > 500 U/L
(2) transient elevation of serum alkaline phosphatase
(3) transient elevation of serum total bilirubin
(4) thrombocytopenia
The diagnosis requires exclusion of other conditions such as hepatitis A, autoimmune hepatitis, NAFLD, etc.
The condition appears to be generally benign.
