Lano, Netterville, et al reported a simple classification for laryngotracheal stenosis in the adult. This can help in surgical reconstruction. The authors are from Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
Sites evaluated for stenosis:
(1) glottis
(2) subglottis
(3) trachea
score =
= number of sites affected

Stage 2 was usually:
(1) subglottis and glottis
(2) subglottis and trachea
Risk failures for failure after reconstruction:
(1) higher stage (more extensive disease)
(2) diabetes
(3) comorbid medical condition associated with need for tracheostomy
