Ulas et al reported a laboratory prognostic index for patients with non-small cell carcinoma (NSCLC). This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Ankara Ataturk Training and Research Hospital, Ankara Oncology Teaching and Research Hospital, Yildirim Beyazit University and Balikesir Government Hospital in Turkey.
Patient selection: NSCLC
Outcome: overall survival
Laboratory parameters:
(1) WBC count
(2) serum LDH concentration
(3) serum alkaline phosphatase concentration
(4) serum calcium concentration
(5) serum albumin concentration

• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 5
• The higher the score the worse the prognosis.
