A patient with acute leptospirosis who has certain laboratory findings may have a worse prognosis.
Laboratory findings associated with a worse prognosis:
(1) hypomagnesemia (associated with altered mental status)
(2) hypoalbuminemia
(3) hyperkalemia
(4) metabolic acidosis
A patient with pre-existing abnormalities in these laboratory parameters may need to take extra precautions to avoid exposure.
Laboratory findings indicating organ failures:
(1) prolonged prothrombin time
(2) elevated total serum bilirubin, AST and ALT
(3) elevated serum creatinine
