Keystone virus is an arbovirus first isolated in Florida.
It is a member of the California serogroup of orthobunyaviruses (arboviruses).
First isolated: Keystone, Florida (just north of Tampa)
Mosquito vector: several species of Aedes mosquitoes, with transovarian transmission
Distribution: Florida, East and Gulf coast of the United States
It is a zoonosis and may involve animals such as squirrels and rabbits.
Clinical features in humans:
(1) asymptomatic seroconversion
(2) rash and fever
(3) encephalitis, ranging from mild to severe
