Description

Koike et al reported the Japanese Vasculitis Activity Score (JVAS) for patients with MPO-ANCA positive microscopic polyangiitis with renal involvement. This can help to identify a patient with progressive disease who requires more aggressive management. The authors are from Kurume University, Yame General Hospital and Omuta City General Hospital in Fukuoka, Japan.

Patient selection: myeloperoxidase-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (MPO-ANCA) associated vasculitis

Parameters:

(1) serum creatinine in mg/dL

(2) age in years

(3) serum CRP in mg/dL

(4) pulmonary lesion

Interpretation:

minimum score: 0

maximum score: 9

A score >= 5 indicates a need for more intensive therapy.

Performance:

The area under the ROC curve is 0.78.

A score >= 5 had a sensitivity of 83% and specificity of 61% for death.
