Description

At the 5th Workshop on Pediatric Liver Disease in Japan criteria for grading hepatic encephalopathy in pediatric patients were listed.


Patient selection: pediatric patient with hepatic encephalopathy

 

Infant

does not laugh aloud

lower spirits than usual, seems lethargic

I

does not laugh at all, even when being played with; (if more than 3 months old) cannot maintain eye contact with mother

obedient attitude, somnolent, disoriented to place or time

II

decreased level of consciousness, opens eyes in response to loud voice

decreased level of consciousness, opens eyes in response to loud voice

III

does not wake up in response to painful stimuli; frowns and/or brushes off stimulus with hands

does not wake up in response to painful stimuli; frowns and/or brushes off stimulus with hands

IV

coma with no response to painful stimuli

come with no response to painful stimula
