Erggelet et al used isokinetic strength testing to evaluate the outcome following arthroscopic repair of a knee meniscus. The authors are from the University of Freiburg, Hospital Rheinfelden and Kurmittelhaus Bad Sackingen in Germany.
Testing: isokinetic strength testing device with software to detect deficits (CYBEX 6000)
Isokinetic Strength of Knee Following Surgery
Outcome
strength better than opposite knee
excellent
strength > 80% of opposite knee
good
strength 60 to 80% of opposite knee
satisfactory
strength < 60% of opposite knee
fair
where:
• The assumption is that the opposite knee is normal. If the opposite knee is not normal then another reference source is needed.
• The outcome does not include a "poor" outcome. I would consider < 50% of normal as poor.
