Description

The inverted takotsubo cardiomyopathy "flips" the portions of the left ventricular wall that are preserved or affected.

Clinical presentation: acute onset of heart failure due to left ventricular dysfunction

Features seen on echocardiography:

(2) dysfunction of the mid-ventricular and/or basilar segments

Other causes of left ventricular dysfunction should be excluded (coronary artery disease, etc).

Precipitating factors may include:

(1) pheochromocytoma

(2) adrenergic beta-2 agonists

(3) scorpion envenomation

(4) subarachnoid hemorrhage

(5) acute trauma
