A number of conditions can result in calcifications within the orbit adjacent to the globe. These are most often detected on imaging studies.
Conditions associated with intra-orbital calcifications adjacent to the globe:
(1) parasitic infections (cysticercosis, toxoplasmosis, other)
(2) chronic inflammation
(4) status post trauma or surgery (old orbital hematoma, etc)
(5) calcifications in orbital arteries (atherosclerosis, Monckeberg medial sclerosis, other)
(7) myositis ossificans
(10) plexiform neurofibroma
(11) intraocular sarcoma
(12) metastatic carcinoma
