Description

Intestinal perforation with peritonitis is an uncommon presentation of infection with a Taenia species.


The site of perforation is in the small intestine.

 

Clinical features:

(1) The patient presents with abdominal pain, fever and peritonitis.

(2) The cause of the peritonitis is a perforation in the small intestine.

(3) Examination of the intestine shows a Taenia worm, or the stool is positive for Taenia eggs.

(4) No other cause for the perforation is identified.
