Poole et al reported International Consensus Criteria for staging hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS). The authors are from multiple institutions in the United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden and Canada.
Patient selection: suspicion of hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS)
Parameters:
(1) blanching in digits
(2) sensory changes in digits lasting > 20 minutes
Digit blanching is measured in each finger of a hand according to the following scheme:
Portion of Finger
Points
no blanching
0
blanching proximal phalanx
1
blanching middle phalanx
2
blanching of distal (whole finger)
3
The thumb would have proximal and distal phalanx scored.
digit blanching score =
= SUM(points for all 5 fingers)
The minimum digit blanching score is 0 and maximum 15.
