Description

A pneumatic jackhammer operator may develop a number of internal injuries.


 

Risk factors:

(1) pressing the body against the jackhammer

(2) coagulopathy

(3) prolonged use

(4) inexperience

 

Injuries may include:

(1) hemothorax

(2) cardiac contusion

(3) fat necrosis or torsion of the omentum

(4) fat necrosis of the mesentery

(5) panniculitis and/or fat necrosis of the abdominal wall

(6) hematoma of the abdominal wall

(7) blunt trauma to muscles of the abdominal wall

(8) rupture of the colon
