Description

Basketball may be associated with a range of injuries in pediatric players.


Patient selection: basketball player < 18 years of age

 

Common injuries:

(1) finger strains, sprains, fractures or dislocations

(2) knee strains, sprains, meniscal and/or ligament ruptures

(3) ankle strains or sprains

(4) facial trauma, including nose bleeds

 

Less often:

(1) concussion or traumatic brain injury

(2) injuries from on court fights

(3) muscle tears, strains or overuse injuries

(4) ligaments tears or strains

 

If the player has not had closure of the physeal plates, then physeal fractrues can occur.
