Description

A number of injuries may be associated with hang gliding. These can range from minor injuries to death, as befell Icarus of Greek legend.


 

The most common injuries are bone fractures with or without dislocations:

(1) vertebra

(2) coccyx

(3) humerus

(4) scapula

(5) ulna and/or radius

(6) small bones of hand

(7) ribs

(8) femur

(9) tibia and/or fibula

(10) bones of the foot

(11) pelvis

(12) facial bones

 

Other injuries may include:

(1) concussion and/or traumatic head injury (especially if a helmet is not worn)

(2) drowning

(3) impalement

(4) cuts and bruising

(5) joint sprain

(6) friction burn
