Description

Coombes et al reported triggers to start and stop extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal. The authors are from multiple institutions in Europe and Australia.

Patient selection: acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)

Treatment modality: extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal

Parameters:

(1) driving pressure in cm H2O

(2) Pplat in cm H2O

(3) PaCO2 in mm Hg

(4) pH

(5) tidal volume in mL per kg predicted body weight

(6) respiratory rate in breaths per minute

(7) PaO2 to FIO2 ratio
