Some males with classic galactosemia may experience infertility. Male gonadal function with classic galactosemia is less affected than the gonadal function of females.
Patient selection: male with classic galactosemia
Findings in a male with classic galactosemia may include:
(1) delayed puberty
(2) cryptorchidism
(3) low semen volume
(4) reduced sperm concentration
(5) reduced serum testosterone concentration
(6) reduced serum inhibin B concentration
In addition, a male with classic galactosemia may benefit from genetic counseling.
