Description

Several different types of infection may be associated with Group B Streptococcus in a nonpregnant adult.


 

Patient selection: nonpregnant adult

 

Infections with group B streptococcus (Streptococcus agalactiae) may include:

(1) bacteremia with or without an identifiable focus of infection

(2) an infection of the skin and/or soft tissue

(3) osteomyelitis

(4) pneumonia

(5) urinary tract infection with or without urosepsis

(6) visceral abscess

(7) peritonitis

(8) septic arthritis

(9) meningitis

(10) endocarditis

(11) myocotic aneurysm

(12) endophthalmitis

(13) pericarditis

(14) myocarditis

(15) intravascular-catheter (IVC) related infections

(16) infection of shunts, prosthetic joints or other impanted materials

(17) genital infections such as vaginitis in women

(18) epiglottic abscess

 

Group B Streptococcus can cause infections that are mixed with other bacteria.
