Description

A urachal remnant may become infected.


Clinical and laboratory features:

(1) abdominal pain and tenderness

(2) fever

(3) leukocytosis

(4) variable mass at the umbilicus

(5) variable lower urinary tract symptoms

 

Imaging studies show a cystic lesion between the urinary bladder and umbilicus with variable fat stranding.

 

Complications:

(1) rupture with peritonitis

(2) small bowel obstruction

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) urachal carcinoma

(2) umbilical hernia
