The Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS) is an autoimmune disorder affecting the presynaptic portion of the neuromuscular disorder. It usually is seen as a paraneoplastic syndrome. Apheresis may be indicated to remove the causative antibody if certain clinical conditions are present.

Indications for plasmapheresis:

(2) newly diagnosed patient who is unable to wait for immunosuppression to take effect

(3) failure for immunosuppression to control completely (resistant)

(4) unable to tolerate immunosuppression
