Description

Haydel et al identified certain clinical findings which could be used to safely limit the use of computed tomography following minor head injury. The authors are from the Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans.


 

Patient selection: History of minor head injury with a Glasgow Coma Scale of 15.

 

All patients with positive CT scans had one or more of the following:

(1) headache

(2) vomiting

(3) age > 60 years

(4) intoxication with drugs and/or alcohol

(5) deficits in short term memory

(6) physical evidence of trauma above the clavicles

(7) seizures
