Indications of Clay et al for MDM2 FISH Testing of a Lipomatous Tumor

Clay et al identified a number of indications for MDM2 FISH testing of a lipomatous tumor. The authors are from Emory University in Emory.

Location of MDM2: 12q15

Medical necessity: identify atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ATL/WDL)

Indications for MDM2 testing:

(1) recurrent lipomatous tumor

(2) deep extremity lipomatous tumor AND > 10 cm in diameter AND age > 50 years

(3) equivocal atypia

(4) lipomatous tumor of retroperitoneum, pelvis or abdomen

(5) suspicious clinical and/or radiologic features (clinical concern)
