A suprapubic aspiration or catheter placement can drain the bladder of urine under certain circumstances.
When a suprapubic drainage of the urinary bladder should be considered - all of the following:
(1) The urinary bladder is palpable above the pubic bone.
(2) The patient is unable to void urine.
(3) All attempts to catheterize the bladder via the urethra have failed.
