Description

Dr Frederic Mohs developed the micrographic surgical technique that bears his name. It can be time-consuming and expensive but provides better outcomes in certain circumstances.

Patient selection: basal cell carcinoma on the face

Indications for Mohs surgery:

(1) presence of high-risk features

(2) recurrent carcinoma or a tumor that was incompletely excised in the past

(3) location where anatomic structures need to be preserved, such as around the eye and nares

(4) location that significantly impacts cosmesis

(5) other factors that make routine surgical excision difficult
