Description

Finger circumference can be measured and monitored in a number of clinical situations.


Conditions where finger circumference may be measured:

(1) acromegaly

(2) dactylitis (psoriatic arthritis, other)

(3) pre-eclampsia and eclampsia

(4) digital trauma

(5) snakebite or other envenomation

 

Methods of measurement:

(1) tape measure

(2) ring sizer

(3) tape with torque meter

 

If the circumference is being monitored then it is important to:

(1) select a most reliable method that is available

(2) use the same method each time

(3) measure the circumference at the same site of the phalanx
