A peripherally-inserted central catheter (PICC) may be inserted if certain conditions are present.
Indications for a peripherally-inserted central catheter (PICC):
(1) difficult intravenous access, including multiple attempts
(2) obesity, diabetes or other chronic conditions requiring frequent and repeated vascular access
(3) repeated or prolonged intravenous therapy
The patient should have at least one vein suitable for the PICC line.
