Description

Yellow fever vaccine is given to protect the individual and to prevent spread in an area where it could become established.


 

Indications for immunization with the yellow fever vaccine:

(1) travel from a country where yellow fever is endemic AND vaccination is required for entry into another country

(2) travel to an area where the infection is endemic AND there are no contraindications or safety concerns

(3) having one or more safety concerns AND having a significant risk of exposure

 

Not being immunized when it is required can result in:

(1) forcible vaccination

(2) forcible quarantine

(3) being refused entry into the country

 

A vaccination is considered effective from 10 days after administration to 10 years afterwards.
