Description

Infants with traveler's diarrhea often can be managed by maintaining adequate hydration and salt replacement. However, the presence of certain findings should prompt the parents to seek immediate medical attention.


 

Indications for immediate medical evaluation in infants: one or more of the following:

(1) moderate or severe dehydration

(2) bloody diarrhea

(3) fever > 102°F

(4) persistent vomiting

 

While medical attention is being obtained, the infant should receive oral replacement therapy.
