Cerclage involved suturing the cervix closed to prevent premature birth.
Indications
(1) second trimester
(2) painless cervical dilation > 2 cm
(3) membranes visible
(4) intact membranes
(5) history of preterm birth
Contraindications:
(1) chorioamnionitis
(2) uterine contractions and/or labor
(3) significant vaginal bleeding
A worse outcome may be associated with significant cervical dilation and a short cervical length (< 1.5 cm).
