Description

A patient with acute cholecystitis may be a candidate for an emergency or urgent cholecystectomy if certain findings are present.


 

Patient selection: acute cholecystitis

 

Indications:

(1) generalized peritonitis

(2) presence of an inflammatory abdominal mass (abscess, etc.)

(3) gas in the gallbladder lumen or adjacent tissues

(4) intestinal obstruction

(5) deterioration in the patient's physical signs or general medical condition
