Stalking can have a number of negative effects on the victim.
Emotional disorders
(1) acute stress disorder
(2) anxiety and/or depression
(3) eating disorder
(4) post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
(5) somatic complaint
Physical injury:
(1) assault
(2) rape
(3) murder
(4) injury to pets
Economic injury:
(1) damage to car
(2) damage to home
(3) damage to workplace
(4) damage to clothing
Functional change:
(1) change in lifestyle or behavior (reduced social activity, change in routine)
(2) change in phone number
(3) change in address
(4) change in jobs
(5) other
The impact may be greater if the victim:
(1) has a history of mental illness
(2) is being pursued by an aggressive or continuous stalker
(3) gets no or little help from others or authorities
(4) fails to seek help
