Description

Havens et al evaluated the impact of malnutrition on outcomes for a general surgery patient admitted to the intensive care unit after emergency surgery. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.


Patient selection: general surgery patient having emergency surgery and admitted to the ICU

 

The assessment of malnutrition was conducted by a dietician within 48 hours of ICU admission.
