Description

Performing a total knee or hip arthroplasty in a lymphedematous lower extremity may have a worse long-term outcome.


Patient selection: knee or hip arthroplasty in a lower extremity with lymphedema

 

Complications that may occur:

(1) increased risk of infection

(2) dislocation or loosening of the prosthesis

(3) need for reoperation or revision

 

Management to reduce lymphedema (lymphedema microsurgery, compression) may improve the outcome.
