Yogendrakumar et al studied the impact of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) on the outcome of a patient with acute intracerebral hemorrhage. Features of the intraventricular hemorrhage can identify a patient who may require more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple institutions in Canada, the United States, Europe and India.
Patient selection: acute intracerebral hemorrhage
Outcome: modified Rankin scale 4 to 6 (poor) at 90 days
Parameters:
(1) any new intraventricular hemorrhage
(2) expansion of the intraventricular hemorrhage in mL
NOTE: It is unclear if the presence of any new intraventricular hemorrhage is truly independent of the volume expansion. This also does not seem to take account of the amount of blood in the ventricles initially.
