A person exposed to noise and a chemical may be at increased risk for audiologic injury over time.
Groups at risk:
(1) factory workers
(2) farmers
(3) fishermen
(4) automobile body shops
(5) woodworkers
Chemicals that may affect the ear:
(1) carbon monoxide
(2) toluene or other solvents
(3) pesticides
(4) lead
The combination of noise and a chemical:
(1) may result in loss of hearing, tinnitus or both
(2) cause greater injury than seen with either alone
