The mortality rate of an adult with significant burn increases with age and frailty.
Risk factors for mortality:
(1) age >= 65 years
(2) greater preburn frailty (using the Canadian Study of Health and Aging scale)
(3) total burn size (sum of partial and full thickness)
A fitter patient may be a better candidate for surgical debridement.
