Fischer et al developed the Immediate Breast Reconstruction Risk Assessment Score (IBRRAS) for estimating the risk of complications following immediate breast reconstruction. This can help identify a woman who is more likely to have problems after the procedure. The authors are from the University of Pennsylvania and Yale School of Medicine.
Patient selection: woman with breast cancer
Outcome: risk for complications after immediate breast reconstruction (superficial or deep wound infection, wound dehiscence, unplanned return to OR, prosthetic or flap loss)
Parameters:
(1) obesity
(2) active smoking
(3) ASA classification
(4) reconstruction (autologous versus implant)

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 9
• The higher the score the greater the risk for complications.
