Description

Cavallaro et al reported a scoring system for bowel dysfunction after ileoanal pouch reconstruction. The system scores symptoms and consequences separately. The authors are from the Patient-Reported Outcomes after Pouch Surgery (PROPS) Scientific Committee.


Patient selection: status post ileoanal pouch anal anastomosis (IPAA), most often performed for ulcerative colitis

 

Symptoms:

(1) accidental leakage

(2) soiling

(3) urgency

(4) frequent or unpredictable bowel movements

(5) need to return to the bathroom

(6) excess toilet time

(7) perianal discomfort

(8) nocturnal symptoms
