Description

The International League of Associations for Rheumatology (ILAR) has listed criteria for the diagnosis of idiopathic juvenile arthritis that does not meet the other described categories. The original criteria proposed in Santiago, Chile, in 1994 were modified at Durban, South Africa, in 1997.

Criteria for juvenile arthritis:

(1) onset before 16th birthday

(2) duration for at least 6 weeks

Criteria for the diagnosis of "other" arthritis - one of the following:

(1) does not match any of the other categories

(2) meets the criteria for more than one of the other categories

Exclusion:

(1) meets criteria for just one of the other categories

Although not stated in the criteria, I imagine you would need to exclude infection and malignancy, as is done for systemic arthritis.
